Spent the afternoon at my kid's soccer game, and I can't believe the abuse the refs took from the stands.
One guy in particular (a fellow parent) went out of his way to be loud, proud and annoying. When he wasn't cheering on the team (good), he was pointing out what he thought were fouls (bad - he obviously knows little about the game), and then screaming at the refs for favoring the other team (worse).
And his moronic actions actually hurt the team - shortly before the second half began, one of the officials marched down the field, with his head turned, his eyes only on "Big Mouth".The years I've spent playing, coaching and watching soccer told me that nothing good could come of that, and I was right (unfortunately) - three advantage calls that would have allowed the team a good chance to tie the score were called back - we lost 3 to 1.
I have been warned by more than one parent to avoid this clown, that he is a hothead and hates to be told he is wrong. Even the team coach has given up trying to deal with him....and the last athletic director almost got into a fight with the guy.
It's sad when a simple game played by kids becomes a forum for one parent to try to get his jollies for whatever reason.
It's sadder still when it hurts the team, the idiot's son who is trying to play, and the school.
